Funny story: I’d been working on a totally different page (from the one above) up until a week and a half ago, when I realized that the pacing of the story would be thrown off if it went up in the original order. In a panic, I scripted, pencilled and painted this new page in that time, so I’m pretty proud of myself for cranking out a Dark Science page so fast, even if technically it extended the total time between updates. All that said, the original page I was working on will go up next pretty soon, as that one’s already partially colored!
I’ve also put a wordless version of the first panel up as a donation wallpaper! As usual, a donation of any amount gets you access to all of the content!
Hey guys! The next page is almost finished, but I’m moving to Portland, OR this week and won’t have access to my computer for the better part of two weeks. To tide you all over (and because you deserve it), here are the full pencils of the next page of Dark Science!
Hey Toronto! I’ll be at TCAF this weekend, ready to meet you fine folks once again. I’ve got lots of Dresden Codak goodies this year, and I’ll also be doing plenty of dinosaur and Zelda sketches for your troubles.
In the aftermath of the immensely successful Kickstarter (which is coming along on schedule!), I thought it would be fun to share something light and totally unrelated to Dresden Codak.
Inspired by Anita Sarkeesian’s Video Game Tropes vs Women, I wanted to pitch a Zelda game where Zelda herself was the hero, rescuing a Prince Link.
Clockwork Empire is set 2,000 years after Twilight Princess, and is not a reboot, but simply another iteration in the Zelda franchise. It just so happens that in this case, Zelda is the protagonist. I’m a very big Zelda fan, and worked hard to draw from key elements in the continuity and mythos.
This concept work is meant to show that Zelda as a game protagonist can be both compelling and true to the franchise, while bringing new and dynamic game elements that go farther than being a simple gender swap.
This is it! As of this writing, the Dresden Codak Kickstarter for the first-ever full collection of the comic has only 58 hours to go! To those who have pledged: you’ve been amazing, and I still can’t believe that The Tomorrow Girl is already the 3rd most funded comic Kickstarter ever. To those who haven’t pledged, don’t wait! Otherwise you will not be able to get a copy of The Tomorrow Girl until the Fall. Also you won’t be able to get the TONS of extra stuff included. Backers of the kickstarter get:
An exclusive Dresden Codak comic that won’t be on the site
A cyborg pride patch and exclusive dinosaur stickers
The one-and-only chance to get a signed book with a Kickstarter-exclusive bookplate
An exclusive new wallpaper that I will draw about dinosaurs
A hi-res exclusive digital collection of all my Tumblr comic theory articles and pop culture redesigns
Here’s a link to a spreadsheet of exactly how many cool things each pledge reward gets: Tomorrow Girl Rewards
Also remember, if we can reach $700k, I will be able to give you guys weekly Dresden Codak updates, and even if we can’t hit that goal, we can still unlock amazing things like a brand-new Hob Companion book available through the Kickstarter if we can raise it to $500k. Again, do not wait if you want a book. I can’t promise what will be available after the Kickstarter ends, and you’ll be missing out on so much exclusive content and rewards. Thanks so much, guys, and no matter how this ends, I’ve been so incredibly blown away by the support I’ve gotten from my readers. This is, hands down, the best fans a guy could ever ask for.
Hey! Would you like the first-ever mass produced Dresden Codak book ever? You should check out The Tomorrow Girl! It collects everything in the archives up to Dark Science. There’s only ONE WEEK LEFT to get your hands on a book, so if you’ve been waiting or if you hadn’t heard about it until now, NOW IS THE TIME TO ACT.
ALSO, would you like faster Dresden Codak updates? Me too, which is why if the Kickstarter can reach $700k, I’ll be able to rent out a studio and a full-time assistant to help with the non-comic duties of my job. That means WEEKLY UPDATES if we can reach that goal! Tell your friends, and if you’ve already pledged, thanks so much for making The Tomorrow Girl happen!
Hey Seattle-area friends, I’ll be at Emerald City Comicon Friday through Sunday (March 1-3)! I’ll be selling my wares, as well as once again doing dinosaur drawings! (Extremely up-to-date dinosaurs, mind you). Come see me at Topatoco booth #1002!
The Tomorrow Girl: Dresden Codak Volume 1 is the long-awaited print collection of the first five years of Dresden Codak and includes brand-new art and content. Please support this Kickstarter if you’d finally like your own copy of my work!
