Looks like Melchior is in quite a pickle!
- If you’re in the Seattle area, I’ll be at Geek Girl Con next weekend (Oct 11 & 12) with my Tomorrow Girl books and other goodies! It’s a top-notch convention, I highly recommend it.
- The Dresden Codak Patreon is doing very well! I’m blown away by the support so far. I’ve been able to hire a part-time assistant to help with a lot of the logical duties, freeing me up for more drawing. The result has been faster comics, which I’d all but given up hope on!
We’re not done yet, though. I’ve figured out what it’ll cost to hire my assistant full-time and allow me to actually have a regular update schedule! If we hit that, I may explode. You can check the details on the page. Ultimately I want to then get it up to three times a month, then if humanly possible, weekly. But that may actually break the laws of physics, we’ll see.
Hey guys! I’ve just started a Patreon to help support the comic and expand what I can do with it. If you don’t know, Patreon is a monthly donation system that has project benchmarks, sort of like a Kickstarter. I’m offering lots of rewards and that sort of thing, but the ultimate goal (via hiring a helper to handle my non-drawing work) is to have a regular Dresden Codak update schedule for the first time ever! If regular updates is something you’re into, check out what I’m offering over there, because I think this is finally something achievable!
Sorry for the radio silence for so long. I’d been kind of not dealing with anxiety and depression for the better part of a year, and it reached a breaking point last month. I’m doing well now, but all this has necessitated a limited use of the internet for a while. For the next few months I won’t be available much through social media, so if you need to contact me, please email me at email@example.com. If you don’t follow me on Twitter or Tumblr, you won’t notice any difference, as I’ll still be updating the comic as always! I’ll also be posting sketches and little content updates on the Patreon blog.
Thanks so much for your patience and support. I couldn’t ask for a better readership, you guys really are the best there ever could be.
Hey guys! For the first time, I’m looking to expand the Dresden Codak operation to such a degree that I can more regularly put comics out and update the site in general. This means hiring one or two people to help with all the backend (ie: non-comics making part) of Dresden Codak.
To that end, I’m going to be starting a Patreon soon! If you haven’t heard of it, it’s a funding platform that lets people pay an amount they choose for the content that artists create. Mine will be up in the next week or so, stay tuned!
Hey, Seattle! I’ll be at Emerald City Comicon March 28-30! I’ll be at the Topatoco booth, #1102. I’ve got all sorts of books and goodies, and I’ll be doing some dinosaur sketches for anybody who wants one.
I’ve had to overcome some serious behind-the-scenes hurdles, but that’s all behind us now. There’s some exciting news regarding the comic that I can’t wait to share in the near future, so stay tuned! 2014 is the year Dresden Codak takes over the world.
Due to an unexpected technical issue with my drawing hardware (which I’ve had to replace), I have to push back the update of the next Dark Science page to next week. Every delay burns me like a hot knife, but sometimes these things happen, sorry about that. Things are going well otherwise, and (despite this setback) I’ve actually concocted some new ways of updating the comic faster! Oh well, maybe next time.
Happy New Year, everybody! I’ve got some great news upcoming Dresden Codak in the next couple weeks, but for now I’d like to announce a new official side gig: The Silmarillion Project. I’m essentially illustrating every chapter of J.R.R. Tolkien’s Silmarillion, but also developing a comprehensive world and design that nobody else has yet to attempt. Not only am I looking to create an aesthetic unique from the Peter Jackson films (which are great, but far too ubiquitous), but I’m also trying to draw attention to the potential for racial and gender diversity in a genre that’s too often dominated by “more white dudes.” For more details on the project, check out the Q&A.
It’s something I unofficially started about a year ago, but public interest in the whole thing kind of spurred me on to continue it and really put something fun together. As it’s something I’m just doing when I have a free hour here and there, this won’t interfere with Dresden Codak updates. In fact I’m looking to double the amount of Dresden Codak updates this year, as I don’t have a massive Kickstarter to manage anymore!
2014 is the Year of Codak, we’re gonna make it happen. Stay tuned.
